Nomenclature & classification is proposed with Full mitochondrial Genome Sequencing results. I use mainly Genbank results and other published scientific data, but also accept private results - for those who don't want to submit their FGS to a public database, but still take part in this study anonymously. The tree should be a usefull canvass to interpret your FGS results by adding your limb to the tree, and observe where it grows from there, and see who shows up in your clan.

I hope to include medically problematic markers as well so related branches at quickly spot problem areas. Since the references remain anonymous to the samples, revealing privately those may help inform others concerned about the potentially unknown condition, whithout revealing your identity (other that your country of origins and kit number locked in my private PW protected database. I hope to specify specific conditions next to the colour-coded marker (orange/yellow).

Why the Full Sequence?
FGS test may seem expensive, but the dollar value of the results is much high than what the combined HVR tests can deliver. The H haplogroup being so large, the Hypervariable regions (HVRs) are often a lot of background noice. Without the Full sequence, examining H's HVRs is like trying to establish the age of a tree by looking at it's leaves, instead of counting it's trunk rings.

Email-me your H FGS results. Subclades in Light blue are subject to some shifting around as new results are added. This version of the tree is meant to be a dynamic reference as new results build the picture.

There are some problems with phylogeny

This is a non-profit, public and hopefully collaborative effort to paint a picture of the evolving H tree as new results are made public. Debate and discussions about classification issues are welcome. Without starting a Forum, I want to start a blog-type sections where I'll post arguments and counter-arguments about particular issues, to settle these in a concensus matter. I am an amateur Genetic Genealogist, journalist by trade, and not associated with any commercial DNA lab. Naturally, there is a bias for labs offering Full Sequencing at a reasonable price ;)
